USA Hockey Merch Sales Skyrocket Since Women's Gold Medal

More USA Hockey gear sold through Fanatics on Thursday than in the previous seven days combinedFANATICS

USA Hockey merchandise sales have spiked more than 500% since the U.S. women’s team defeated Canada for the Gold Medal in Pyeongchang last Thursday, according to Fanatics, the official USOC e-commerce partner. More USA Hockey gear sold through Fanatics sites on Thursday than in the previous seven days combined. Fanatics launched two new products to commemorate the win -- a T-shirt that reads “Ice Gold” in black and white. “We’ve seen fans respond quickly with very strong demand for Team USA hockey merchandise since the victory,” said Fanatics co-President of Direct-to-Consumer Business Jack Boyle. “We were well prepared for this surge with new Gold Medal products and a large Team USA hockey assortment, but as strong as hockey merchandise has been selling throughout the games, what we’ve seen the past 24 hours is better than any one-day spike throughout these Pyeongchang Games” (Ben Fischer, Staff Writer).

TWIN ENGINES: THE RINGER's Rodger Sherman ranks the Lamoureux Twins No. 3 on his list of "American Olympic heroes" (Chloe Kim is No. 1). Monique Lamoureux-Morando "tied the gold-medal game" for USA Hockey, while Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson "scored the brilliant shootout goal that eventually won the game. Lamoureux-Davidson's goal was the "best moment of the Olympics," and observers may not know "how important [her] goal was for a while." Many players on the team "mentioned that they were inspired to play hockey by the 1998 gold medal-winning team." Sherman: "If those players brought women's hockey here, where will it go now after such a spectacular moment?" (THERINGER.com, 2/26).
