NBA agent DAN FEGAN yesterday was killed near Aspen when the SUV he was driving was "hit by a bus," according to Robbie & Krause of the ASPEN TIMES. Fegan, 56, who at one time was "arguably one of the most well-respected agents in the NBA, had a very public split last March with the Independent Sports & Entertainment agency he worked for." The two sides were "involved in a lawsuit after he was fired." His clients through the years included Hornets C DWIGHT HOWARD, Wizards G JOHN WALL, Pelicans C DEMARCUS COUSINS, Rockets F NENE and Jazz G RICKY RUBIO. The Colorado State Patrol said that the SUV Fegan was driving was "trying to cross or merge onto Highway 82 when it was broadsided by the RFTA bus." Colorado State Trooper GABE EASTON said that two other passengers in the SUV, a 29-year-old woman from California and Fegan’s 5-year-old son, were "airlifted to a hospital in Denver with serious injuries." Mavericks Owner MARK CUBAN in an email wrote, "I loved Dan. He was an amazing man. Always a friend. Always a pro. Smart" (ASPEN TIMES, 2/26). USA TODAY's Jeff Zillgitt writes Fegan had an "aggressive style and was known for trying to force some of his clients from one team to another in what were sometimes public clashes." It created a "difficult situation, but Fegan was determined to do what he thought was best for his client." He was "respected by team executives who knew he took a hard-line stance in negotiations on behalf of his clients." As Fegan got older, his client list decreased as he "spent more time with his son" (USA TODAY, 2/26).
