Media Notes

In N.Y., Bob Raissman cited an iHeart Radio source as saying that there is "some concern" Entercom, which now owns seven N.Y. radio stations including WFAN-AM, "could be interested in acquiring the Mets’ radio rights." The Mets’ five-year contract with iHeart/WOR-AM "ends following this season." WOR pays the Mets about $8M per year for the rights. A partnership with the Mets would give Entercom a "stranglehold on the New York baseball market, which would be advantageous when it comes to selling advertising" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 2/25).

WORK TOGETHER: SI.com's Richard Deitsch reported a "number of female employees at ESPN have started sharing their salaries privately with each other in an effort to get a better sense of the company’s overall salary structure -- and to better get leverage when contracts come up." Deitsch: "This will be especially valuable for ESPN female on-air reporters and commentators come contract time as traditionally males in those positions have been paid far more than women in Bristol (in some cases, I’ve heard, six figures more), even with ESPN’s leadership position of giving women prominent front-facing roles" (SI.com, 2/25).

STILL TOUGH TO SEE: In L.A., Bill Shaikin noted the Dodgers and TV partner SportsNet LA "announced that five games will be shown" on KTLA-CW in '18. The games will be "simulcasts of the SportsNet LA broadcasts, which otherwise are available only to customers" of Charter's Spectrum service. Spectrum in a statement said, "Other distributors are not expected to carry SportsNet LA this season" (L.A. TIMES, 2/24).
