Medal Stand: IOC Takes Cheap Shot At Longtime Member

Each day during the Olympics, THE DAILY offers our take on the business performances of some of the people, sponsors, broadcasters and other entities around Pyeongchang.

GOLD: TEAM USA HOCKEY -- The U.S. women ended their 20-year gold-medal drought by taking down Canada, which had won the last four Olympic titles, in a thrilling final.

SILVER: KIKKAN RANDALL -- One day after winning the first U.S. gold in cross country skiing, Randall was voted to the IOC Athletes Commission, giving her an important voice in global Olympic sports.

BRONZE: LINDSEY VONN -- America’s most decorated alpine skier outside of the Games more than likely competed in her final Olympic race today. Vonn’s Olympic history was plagued by injuries, but she did as much to keep skiing in the public eye as anyone.

TIN: IOC -- That the organization doesn’t take a harder stance on issues like doping and human rights is discouraging enough. But to tell longtime member Dick Pound that he’s “free to leave” simply for calling the organization out is classless. Don’t be afraid to look in a mirror.
