Monumental, Keemotion Partner On Live-Streaming Youth Hockey

Monumental Sports Network has partnered with Keemotion, a provider of automated video production technology, to livestream youth and high school hockey games.

The Ted Leonsis-owned and Washington, D.C.-based regional sports network will produce and stream a number of games from the Kettler Capitals Iceplex, the practice rink of the NHL’s Capitals. Monumental and Keemotion debuted the partnered livestream during a high school game in January.

The tech that Keemotion brings to Monumental’s coverage includes a cloud-based network of motion-detecting cameras that can capture video of games and provide real-time analytics for coaches, teams, and leagues. Fans, subscribers, coaches, and teams can view and share highlights on social media via Monumental’s website and mobile app and through Amazon Fire TV, Roku, Xbox One, Apple TV and other services. Keemotion’s technology is no stranger to enabling hockey to be streamed.

Monumental will eventually extend Keemotion’s production solution into youth basketball as well, Monumental Sports Network general manager Zach Leonsis said Tuesday at SportTechie’s State Of The Industry event in New York. Monumental currently airs high school basketball games and also plans to stream all available games for the Capital City Go-Go — the Monumental-owned G League team.

“Keemotion is extremely excited to partner with Monumental Sports Network, a trailblazer in the rapidly evolving landscape of sports media,” Milton Lee, Keemotion’s CEO, said in a statement. “The Long Tail of Sports — youth games — has become the next frontier. When Zach told me his vision of distributing the D.C.-area’s best games, we felt we had to be a part it.”

According to the news release, the hockey coverage with Keemotion in the fold will also be included as part of Monumental’s “The Giant High School Hockey Showcase,” an initiative that was announced by the network in December. The showcase brings fans live coverage of 40-plus “can’t miss” matchups.

“Shining a light on the immense talent the city has to offer at the grassroots level is part of the Network’s DNA,” Zach Leonsis said in a statement. “We are excited to work with Keemotion to provide sports fans and Network subscribers with quality productions and live access to some of the fiercest regional sports rivalries in the city.”
