Louisville Interim AD Lowers Own Salary As Part Of Cost-Cutting

Louisville interim AD Vince Tyra said that he will "lower his salary by $350,000 as part of a cost-cutting effort across the athletic department," according to Jake Lourim of the Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL. Last Friday, Louisville announced it had "parted ways with three high-ranking athletic department officials" in Senior Associate AD Mark Jurich and Associate ADs Julianne Waldron and Kim Maffett, and Tyra on Thursday night "addressed the athletic department's restructuring." He said that in "examining the athletic department's costs, he looked up the salaries of the other athletic directors in the ACC and averaged the top three, which generated $854,000." As a result, he said that he "asked to have his salary lowered" from $1.2M to $850,000. Tyra added that he is "looking to lower the costs out of the athletic office" by $1M a year, with "half of that coming from internal salaries and half coming from reducing third-party services" (Louisville COURIER-JOURNAL, 2/9).
