Marlins Bringing Teal Back Into Color Scheme For 25th Anniversary

Throwback uniforms for the Marlins this upcoming season will look just like the ones that the team wore from '93-'11

The Marlins are working teal, the team's original trademark color, back into their design scheme for '18 as part of a "season-long celebration of the 25th anniversary" of their first season, according to Tim Healey of the South Florida SUN SENTINEL. Fans will "see the new-again color on multiple fronts." The Marlins will wear a "specially designed patch," unveiled yesterday at Marlins Park during an event for season-ticket holders, "on their uniforms for every game." They will also wear "throwback teal uniforms during the June 8-10 home series" against the Padres. The teal is "one focal point of what the Marlins have planned marketing-wise for their 26th season." The throwback uniforms will be "just like the ones the Marlins wore" from '93-'11. Other anniversary commemorations include the Marlins highlighting "memorable moments" from their inaugural season in '93 during every home game. During the anniversary weekend in June, the team will also "pair the throwback jerseys with throwback ticket prices." Seats in the upper deck will cost $4 -- the "same as an adult general admission ticket" for Opening Day '93 (South Florida SUN SENTINEL, 2/7). The Marlins yesterday unveiled their black-and-teal 25th anniversary logo to "about 60 original season-ticket holders" (MIAMI HERALD, 2/7).

NO ONE IS SAFE: The SUN SENTINEL's Healey reports the Marlins this week "fired John DeCicco, the person who wore" the Billy the Marlin mascot outfit. DeCicco had been "wearing the Billy the Marlin costume for more than a decade." Billy the Marlin will "remain the Marlins' mascot, but with a different person playing him" (South Florida SUN SENTINEL, 2/7). In Miami, McPherson & Spencer wrote it "seems like no one's job is safe" in the Marlins' organization these days. The move to fire DeCicco "comes just days before the Marlins host their annual FanFest," which is set for Saturday at Marlins Park (MIAMIHERALD.com, 2/6).
