MLL Names Sandy Brown As New Commish, Replacing David Gross

Major League Lacrosse today named Sandy Brown as its new Commissioner, replacing David Gross. Brown becomes the league's second commissioner, as Gross had led the property since '04 (MLL). INSIDE LACROSSE's Foy & Devitte noted Brown has "spent a career in cable and broadcast media," most recently five years as One World Sports President & CEO. He also has served as Univision President of Sports and Managing Dir of several ESPN properties from '92-'01. Brown's hiring "brings an end to the MLL's lengthy process to succeed" Gross, who announced in December '16 his plans to resign at the end of the '17 season. His term was "extended multiple times last fall as the commissioner search continued." Sources said that Gross "will remain in his role" as Lax United Marketing LLC President. That organization houses the OTT outlet Lax Sports Network, which is the "primary carrier for MLL games." Sources added that Gross "may lead operations" for the four franchises primarily owned by New Balance Chair Jim Davis -- the Charlotte Hounds, Dallas Rattlers, Florida Launch and Ohio Machine (INSIDELACROSSE.com, 2/5).
