Swamp Things: Florida AD Looking At Upgrades For Football Stadium

Major improvements to the football stadium will sit on the back burner until three other projects are completedGETTY IMAGES

Florida AD Scott Stricklin said that Ben Hill Griffin Stadium "has become outdated" and is in need of a "facelift and, perhaps, a nip and tuck," according to Edgar Thompson of the ORLANDO SENTINEL. He said that any potential renovations could "'potentially' reduce capacity from 91,916." However, Stricklin has a "long list of facility improvements to address before tackling the biggest job in his department." UF continues to "work on plans to build a stand-alone football facility" and new baseball venue. Major upgrades to the softball venue "also are part of the department’s so-called 'master plan' for facility improvements." Stricklin: “Probably sometime this spring [we] will be in position to give specifics and details." Thompson notes major improvements to the football stadium will "sit on the back burner until those three projects are completed," though some needed upgrades could be made "during the foreseeable future." Stricklin: “There’s some low-hanging fruit from things I hear from fans right now, wifi in the stadium, better sound system, better visual boards." Stricklin also said that he would "like to see the restrooms and concessions areas upgraded" (ORLANDO SENTINEL, 2/6).
