People & Personalities: Saints Radio Announcer Jim Henderson Retiring

In New Orleans, Nick Underhill notes Saints radio announcer Jim Henderson on Thursday announced he is "stepping down" after over three decades on the job. Henderson in '86 took over play-by-play duties and later "teamed up with analyst Hokie Gajan," a former Saints RB, who died from cancer in '16. Henderson then "worked the past two seasons" alongside former NFLer Deuce McAllister. A search for Henderson’s replacement "will begin soon" (New Orleans ADVOCATE, 2/2).

FRESH FISH: In Miami, Barry Jackson noted FS Florida and the Marlins "found their new TV play-by-play announcer" in former MLB Network host Paul Severino. He will "call 150 games alongside returning analyst Todd Hollandsworth." Severino replaces Rich Waltz, who was "dismissed Thanksgiving week." The Marlins were "involved in the audition process that resulted in Severino’s hiring." However, the club said that they "had no input in the decision." Craig Minervini will "return as the Marlins’ studio host" (MIAMI HERALD, 2/1).

WELCOME TO THE TEAM: In Seattle, Ryan Davis notes Gary Hill Jr. will "join the Mariners’ radio broadcast team on a full-time basis" as Exec Producer/Engineer for the organization’s radio broadcast. He replaces Kevin Cremin, who "retired after this past season, ending a 35-year run in that role." Hill joins the "returning regular broadcast crew of Rick Rizz, Dave Sims, Aaron Goldsmith and Mike Blowers" (SEATTLE TIMES, 2/2).
