Indianapolis 500's Green Flag Traveling World To Drive Interest

The Indianapolis 500’s green flag is “traveling the world this year to raise awareness for what long has been known as ‘The Greatest Spectacle in Racing,’” according to Anthony Schoettle of the INDIANAPOLIS BUSINESS JOURNAL. Indianapolis Motor Speedway last week “launched the inaugural Green Flag Relay” with a visit to NASDAQ in N.Y. As part of the initiative, ’16 race champion Alexander Rossi “waved the green flag” at last weekend’s NHL All-Star Game in Tampa. IMS officials are “promising many more stops before this year’s race on May 27 and are inviting fans to track the tour” on its website. IMS officials said that the flag will “make 10 to 15 appearances in total,” including stops in Chicago, DC, L.A., London and Paris. IMS and the Verizon IndyCar Series have “punched the gas on their marketing efforts” since Mark Miles became CEO of Hulman & Co. in late ’12 (IBJ.com, 1/31).

FOUR SCORE: In Indianapolis, Dakota Crawford noted there will be “boutique tiny homes available for rent” at this year's Indy 500. The four-night, four-person package “includes four general admission tickets to Carb Day, Legends Day, and Indy 500 Race Day” for a price of $3,000. That is “twice the price of the ‘glamping’ package that had gained popularity in recent race seasons.” For a queen bed package in one of IMS' luxury tents, it is $1,500 "for four nights” (INDIANAPOLIS STAR, 1/30).
