New Sponsorship Will Pay Canadian Speedskater In Cryptocurrency

Bloemen and his agent both liked the unique aspect of the terms and the profile of each companytwitter

Canadian speedskater Ted-Jan Bloemen "signed unique, one-year sponsorship deals" with virtual reality experiences producer CEEK VR and decentralized social network and crypto community ONG Social -- and he is being "paid in part in cryptocurrencies issued by the companies," according to Dan Barnes of the NATIONAL POST. CEEK CEO Mary Spio and ONG Social CEO Christopher Kramer said that they "believe Bloemen is the first athlete to accept sponsorship payment in crypto." Bloemen and his agent, Lawrence Baslaw, both "liked the unique aspect of the terms and the profile of each company." Bloemen said, “I had no pre-existing knowledge about it, so I’m excited to learn and see where it’s going. From what I know, it’s something that can go up and down really fast, so it’s pretty exciting." Kramer said that they will "work with Bloemen on building his social media presence." Baslaw said that Bloemen will "wear the ONG Social logo on his racing suit and podium jacket at two events" after the Pyeongchang Games (NATIONAL POST, 1/31).
