Secondary Super Bowl LII Tickets Could Be Most Expensive On Record

Super Bowl LII could "end up being the most expensive" on the secondary ticket market "since major sites like StubHub, SeatGeek and TicketIQ began tracking prices over the last decade," according to A.J. Perez of USA TODAY. The average price for a ticket sold on StubHub as of yesterday afternoon "was $5,415, in excess of $1,000 more than the average price of the most expensive Super Bowl tracked" -- Super Bowl 50 between the Panthers and Broncos. StubHub Communications Manager Cameron Papp said, “There was a thought as soon as the Vikings lost that there’d be a huge dip, but there’s still been high demand. The Eagles fans have surprised us." Purchases from Pennsylvania "make up 14% of the tickets bought" on StubHub. Buyers "located in Massachusetts make up 11%." On SeatGeek, 18% of the purchasers are "from the Philadelphia area with the Boston area making up 11%" (USA TODAY, 1/31). In St. Paul, Charley Walters notes 21% of Super Bowl tickets bought on Vivid Seats have been "sold to people from the state of Minnesota." As of yesterday, the median Super Bowl ticket price on Vivid "was $4,545, with a 'get-in' price of $3,391." Tickets on the 50-yard line are "going for as much as $30,533" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 1/31).

SUPER BOWL OF BROTHERLY LOVE? In Philadelphia, Mike Sielski notes the Eagles and Patriots will "play in a setting that will have no effect on the game and be perfectly comfortable for everyone on hand." That is "one of the primary reasons" that one of Eagles Owner Jeffrey Lurie’s "goals as an NFL owner -- hosting a Super Bowl at Lincoln Financial Field -- seems so remote at the moment." The NFL "appears in no rush to try another Super Bowl at an open-air venue in the Northeast, and Lurie himself acknowledged as much." He said, “I don’t know if the rest of the league and the rest of the country wants to do more cold-weather, outdoor Super Bowls. I don’t know. I don’t know if the attitude is there. We’ve got so many new stadiums in great places with domes like this and warm weather. With two teams in Los Angeles, with a new stadium coming there, Las Vegas, the list goes on and on and on. I think you’ve got to be realistic” (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 1/31).
