Univ. Of Tennessee Athletics Posts $10.8M Surplus For FY '16-17

The Univ. of Tennessee athletic department operated at a $10.8M surplus during FY '16-17, with $5M of that allocated to the Neyland Stadium renovation and the remaining $5.8M "used to fund ongoing facilities projects, such as the Haslam Field expansion, new stadium scoreboards for soccer, baseball and softball and exterior painting for Neyland," according to Blake Toppmeyer of the Knoxville NEWS SENTINEL. UT football was responsible for $100.9M in revenue compared to $51.3M in expenses, meaning it operated at a $49.6M surplus. UT football also brought in $30.6M "via ticket sales." The athletic department's $10.8M surplus is down from a surplus of $12.4M for FY '15-16. Overall, UT athletics had $145.7M in revenue and $134.9M in expenses for FY '16-17 (Knoxville NEWS SENTINEL, 1/30).
