Aussie Open Champ Caroline Wozniacki Signs New Deal With Cayman Island Resort Group

Tennis player Caroline Wozniacki has signed a "year-long marketing deal with Dart Enterprises" that will see her become an "ambassador for the Residences at Seafire" resort on Grand Cayman Island, according to Spencer Fordin of the CAYMAN COMPASS. Wozniacki, who this weekend claimed her first Grand Slam title by winning the Australian Open, will have "access to accommodations whenever she wants to visit" as part of her deal. Her equipment bag "already bears a patch advertising the Seafire Residences." Dart VP Chris Duggan hopes that Wozniacki "will eventually become a brand model for Dart properties such as The Ritz-Carlton and Dragon Bay," but the sides currently are "just exploring the beginning of their partnership." The one-year deal "will expire just before next year's Australian Open." However, Duggan said, "We anticipate it going on. It was all very last minute, and we wanted to get it signed before Australia. ... Both sides anticipate it being a long-term partnership" (CAYMAN COMPASS, 1/28).

FASHION FAUX PAS: SI.com's Jon Wertheim wrote "no one wins" with Simona Halep's "absence of a clothing contract." Halep, who lost in the Australian Open final, parted ways with Adidas at the end of '17. Wertheim wrote it "looks bad for all parties when the No. 1 player in the world is buying clothes off the internet." Halep also is "losing out on bonuses," as players like Wozniacki will "make millions ... both by winning Slams and finishing the year with high rankings" (SI.com, 1/28).
