Jaguars Appear To Be Zeroing In On Location For A Large-Scale Entertainment District

The Jaguars appear to be "zeroing in on Lot J" outside EverBank Field as the "potential site for a large-scale entertainment district that would bring to Jacksonville the kind of indoor venue that other cities have created near their stadiums," according to David Bauerlein of the FLORIDA TIMES-UNION. The idea is in the "'very early phases' and if it does get built, it’s at least a year away." Fans who park at Lot J for Jaguars home games will "still be able to use that lot" when the '18 season kicks off. Iguana Investments, controlled by Jaguars Owner Shad Khan, is in "negotiations with the city to become master developer of about 70 acres of city-owned land along the riverfront containing Metropolitan Park and The Shipyards, a vacant tract the city has tried for years to get developed." Lot J, which the "city owns and leases to the Jaguars, falls outside the boundaries of the Met Park/Shipyards area." The size of Lot J "would be sufficient for the kind of entertainment centers" built by Baltimore-based developer Cordish, which has "been at the vanguard of such developments across the country," including Ballpark Village in St. Louis (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 1/27).
