Radio Rights For White Sox, Bulls Available After Cumulus Asks Court To End Deals

The radio rights to the White Sox and Bulls "suddenly appear to be up for grabs," according to Phil Rosenthal of the CHICAGO TRIBUNE. Cumulus Media, which owns WLS-AM, on Thursday filed motions with a U.S. Bankruptcy Court seeking to "get out from under 'a handful of extremely unprofitable contracts,'" including those with the White Sox and Bulls. The court's decision is "expected Feb. 1." The White Sox are in the middle of a six-year deal with WLS, while the Bulls are in a five-year agreement. Cumulus said that it is "seeking to get out from fewer than 20 of its more than 15,000 contracts" (CHICAGOTRIBUNE.com, 1/19).
