PepsiCo To Air 60-Second Super Bowl Ad Promoting Both Mountain Dew, Doritos Brand

PepsiCo will be using 60 seconds of ad time during the Super Bowl to showcase two of its new products -- Blaze Doritos and Mountain Dew Ice, according to Dominic Chu of CNBC. The ad features actors Peter Dinklage from "Game of Thrones," and Morgan Freeman, who has "one of the most iconic voices." Chu said it will be "two 30-second ads back-to-back." It is the "first time two big national trademarked brands have been featured in one Super Bowl commercial" ("Squawk Box," CNBC, 1/17). ADWEEK's Katie Richards noted both brands are "no stranger to Super Bowl advertising." Doritos ran its "Crash the Super Bowl" contest for 10 years before "choosing to end the competition and sit out of the game last year." Meanwhile, Mountain Dew had that "absurd, yet weirdly fascinating 'Puppymonkeybaby' ad" in '16 for its Kickstart drink (ADWEEK.com, 1/17).

EXCELLENT ADVENTURE: AD AGE's Jeanine Poggi noted Squarespace is "returning for its fifth Super Bowl, this time with a spot starring actor Keanu Reeves." Reeves uses the platform for his "motorcycle business Arch." The 30-second spot, created in-house, will "play upon his history as a customer." Last year, Squarespace aired a "humorous Super Bowl commercial starring John Malkovich." Squarespace's Super Bowl ad in '16 starred comedians Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele, while its '15 Super Bowl spot featured actor Jeff Bridges (ADAGE.com, 1/17). ADWEEK's Richards noted the brand "did not release any other details about creative at this point, but Reeves will star in an ongoing campaign (which includes the Super Bowl ad) for Squarespace" (ADWEEK.com, 1/17).
