CFP Taps New Selection Committee Members; Oregon AD Mullens To Serve As Chair

Oregon AD Rob Mullens will serve as the third CFP Selection Committee Chair after Texas Tech's Kirby Hocutt completes his term Feb. 1. Mullens follows former Arkansas AD Jeff Long ('14-15) and Hocutt ('16-17) as Chair. The CFP yesterday also named former Arizona Republic sports columnist Paola Boivin, Oklahoma AD Joe Castiglione, former coach Ken Hatfield, Pro Football HOFer Ronnie Lott, Georgia Tech AD Todd Stansbury and Florida AD Scott Stricklin to its membership. The new members will begin a three-year term this spring (THE DAILY). ESPN.com's Heather Dinich noted Boivin is the "second woman to be named to the committee, following the tenure" of former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice (ESPN.com, 1/17). USA TODAY's Paul Myerberg notes Boivin replaces former USA Today reporter Steve Wieberg as the committee's "media representative" (USA TODAY, 1/18). Boivin said of her inclusion, "Some of the favorite moments from my sports journalism career involve covering college football" (AZCENTRAL.com, 1/17). Meanwhile, in Oklahoma City, Berry Tramel writes under the header, "Despite Joe Castiglione, Still Scant Big 12 Influence On Football Committee" (OKLAHOMAN, 1/18).
