Jaguars Removing Some Tarps In Upper Deck For Upcoming Home Playoff Game

The Jaguars will "remove tarps from several sections of EverBank Field's upper deck" for the team's upcoming playoff game after receiving approval from the NFL and two sponsors that had logos on the tarps, according to a front-page piece by Ryan O'Halloran of the FLORIDA TIMES-UNION. The move creates 3,501 additional seats, which went on sale Friday morning and quickly sold out. The team made a "limited number of standing-room-only tickets available for purchase." The updated capacity at EverBank Field for the Jags' first home playoff game since '00 will be 67,932 seats, "plus standing-room fans." The NFL during the regular season "prohibits a change in seating capacity," and sponsorships for the tarps are "sold on a season-long contract." However, after the Jags' "quick sellout" on Wednesday, the team got the go-ahead from the league and the sponsors -- Navy Mutual and the Florida Department of Transportation's "Alert Today, Alive Tomorrow" campaign -- to "remove certain tarps" (FLORIDA TIMES-UNION, 12/29).
