Longtime ESPN Reporter Jeannine Edwards Retiring After This Week's Cotton Bowl

ESPN college football sideline reporter Jeannine Edwards is retiring at the end of the year. Her final assignment will be covering the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic on Friday for "SportsCenter." Edwards joined the net in '95 and covered horse racing, college football and college basketball, among other sports. She said she was offered a new contract, but that it was time to step away (ESPN). Edwards said that her retirement will "primarily be to spend time with aging parents." Her father "passed away in June" (NBCSPORTS.com, 12/26). In Oklahoma City, Scott Wright noted Edwards' husband, Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Glenn Spencer, "recorded a video for ESPN" to "salute his wife's remarkable career." Spencer in the video said, "I know you didn't want a big deal made of this, but sorry. ... Everybody in my profession speaks so highly of you, and that's something to be proud of. I'm looking forward to some nights now when we can see each other, and we're not passing each other in the airports" (NEWSOK.com, 12/26).
