Colorado Classic Returning For Second Iteration, With Two Days In Vail Being Added

The Colorado Classic cycling event will "return next summer" for a second iteration, with two days in Vail being added to go along with two days in Denver, according to Jason Blevins of the DENVER POST. The deal by Colorado-based RPM Events Group with Vail Valley Partnership is for '18-20, although the Vail Town Council has "only approved funding -- $310,000 plus services -- for next year." Vail will "host a day of men’s and women’s circuit racing and a time trial up Vail Pass" on Aug. 16-17. The Vail Valley Foundation and the Town of Vail "weren’t keen on planning and bidding for the race every year, so they locked in a three-year deal." Vail’s Ford Amphitheater will "host major musical acts for two nights following the race." After the contests in Vail, the festivities "moves to the Coors Field parking lot" in Denver, where RPM Events "plans music, food and beer festival around bike racing" (DENVER POST, 12/23). The inaugural running of the Colorado Classic in '17 included one stage in Colorado Springs, one in Breckenridge and two in Denver (THE DAILY).
