Franchise Notes

FANRAG SPORTS' Jon Heyman noted the Marlins’ new ownership group has "launched a campaign to add significant dollars to its coffers." An email from earlier this month, with "Project Citrus" as the title, "trumpets the opportunity" to invest in the Marlins. Sources said that the team is hoping to raise $250M from the "additional investors it seeks, though that figure isn’t contained in this document and is unconfirmed" (FANRAGSPORTS.com, 11/22). NBC Sports Bay Area's Kelli Johnson said, "They took over what was a money-losing venture. ... Usually these kind of things happen down the road when you have some financial setbacks, but they go into it already needing more money" ("The Happy Hour," NBC Sports Bay Area," 11/24).

TIME FOR ANOTHER COMEBACK: In Colorado Springs, Woody Paige wrote Broncos Exec VP/Football Operations & GM John Elway is being "denunciated for the sad, shameful, shocking state" of his team, which is 3-8 this season. In Elway's 23 years within the organization, this year will be "only the fourth losing season." Elway is "surrounded by 'yes'' men who won't disagree with him." He "needs a 'no'' man and buffer as general manager." He also "needs" Broncos Owner Pat Bowlen. But Elway has "come back over and over before," and he will "come back again" (Colorado Springs GAZETTE, 11/26).

WHAT WOULD LAMAR DO?
In Columbus, Michael Arace wrote under the header, "Crew Move Not The Way Lamar Hunt Would Do Business." Columbus "enjoys its image of Midwestern quietude and neighborliness." Yet, since Crew Owner Anthony Precourt is "threatening (and apparently bent upon) tearing the team out of Columbus, the city’s civic passions have been unleashed in the form of the #SaveTheCrew movement" (COLUMBUS DISPATCH, 11/26).
