Phil Simms Takes Issue With Hard Rock Stadium Field After Raiders-Dolphins Game

The Dolphins and Raiders are "lucky that somebody didn't get hurt" during their game Sunday night due to the field conditions at Hard Rock Stadium, according to Showtime's Phil Simms. The game came less than 24 hours after the Univ. of Miami beat Virginia Tech on the same field, and Simms asked, "Did you watch the Sunday night game down in Miami? Those are professional football players. Did you see the field conditions? It really bothered me. There were guys like Ndamukong Suh, players out there that could have really been hurt because of the condition of that field.” He added, "In this day and age, you can't have a great surface for all these guys?” (“Inside the NFL,” Showtime, 11/7). In West Palm Beach, Hal Habib noted the stadium's field "can take a pounding" when UM plays in the stadium the day before a Dolphins game. In addition to the short turnaround from the college game, there was a "downpour just before kickoff" of Raiders-Dolphins on a "freshly sodded surface." More issues "could be on the horizon" -- UM plays Virginia on Nov. 18, with the Dolphins hosting the Buccaneers the next day in a "makeup for the season-opener" wiped away by Hurricane Irma (PALMBEACHPOST.com, 11/7).
