For All The Marbles: Secondary Ticket Market Seeing High Volatility For Game 7

Tickets for tonight’s World Series Game 7 in L.A. have seen a high amount of volatility since the Dodgers forced a deciding game. Following the Dodgers’ 3-1 win in Game 6 last night, low-end get-ins tickets soared beyond $1,300, above the full-park average price for Games 1 and 2 at Dodger Stadium. However, as resale inventories have soared beyond 16,000 tickets according to industry estimates, representing more than a quarter of the ballpark’s 56,000-seat capacity, minimum prices early today dropped to less than $800. Some industry insiders said that inventory number might still be lower than reality as some sellers hold back inventory while they wait for the market to stabilize. StubHub said its average sales price for the game thus far is $1,792, more than $600 above the average sales price for Game 1. SeatGeek data showed an average resale price of $1,740, predictably the highest mark for this year’s World Series, but still below a comparable $2,420 for last year’s Cubs-Indians Game 7 in Cleveland. Former Ticketmaster CEO Nathan Hubbard last night tweeted that “triangulating pricing and inventory tonight, it looks like sellers will make ~$40 million on Game 7.” Further market movement is expected this afternoon as the game approaches, particularly as the Pacific time zone starts its business day.
