Augmented Reality Sports Apps Come To Argentina

Salta, Argentina is a place where augmented reality can be experienced during basketball games and soccer matches thanks to forward-thinking teams and their tech partners.

Argentina’s national basketball team and Club Atletico Atlas, a Buenos Aires-based soccer club, each have apps where fans can walk through a city, answer trivia questions to unlock badges to fill up an album, find objects on a map and take selfies with virtual players. In the case of the basketball app, fans could also shoot virtual baskets.

The launch of the apps by digital agency Practia and Medea Interactiva were timed with events in Salta. Martearena Stadium hosted a match in August featuring Atlas and River Plate where fans could use the app. Also in August, the basketball team featuring players like the San Antonio Spurs’ Manu Ginobili and former NBA player Luis Scola played in Super 4 Salta exhibition among South American teams at Estadio Delmi.

Atlas also has the Atlas 360 app that fans could use to watch 360-degree video content.
