Mean Green Indeed: UNT Getting $1.15M Guaranteed This Year Through Learfield Deal

The Univ. of North Texas will receive $1.15M through its multimedia rights agreement with Learfield for the '17-18 school year and will "see that figure rise annually," according to Brett Vito of the DENTON RECORD-CHRONICLE. Learfield will oversee all aspects of UNT's "marketing, sponsorships and promotional rights this year." It also is "handling all of UNT's signage, digital efforts, corporate sponsorships, television and radio play-by-play, and coach shows" in a contract that expires after the '26-27 school year. UNT, which previously handled things in-house, "received a $100,000 bonus for agreeing to turn over its multimedia operations to Learfield." The deal "establishes two annual thresholds that dictate how the money from UNT's media operations is divided." The first is the "guaranteed rights fee" that starts at $1.15M and "increases annually." The second is a higher revenue threshold that will see Learfield "retain the revenue beyond the guaranteed rights fee up to the revenue threshold" (DENTON RECORD-CHRONICLE, 10/26).
