SAP, WTA Provide Journalists With Real-Time Tennis Analytics

For most journalists, one of the most frustrating things is when you miss a moment of the match or game you are covering, and you are left with a hole in your knowledge of what happened.

SAP and the Women’s Tennis Association are trying to eliminate that problem with a new online portal, SAP Tennis Analytics, that will provide data and insights to the media in real-time during the WTA tournaments using the technology that has stemmed from an ongoing partnership between SAP and the WTA.

The SAP Tennis Analytics applies SAP Leonardo Machine Learning capabilities and SAP Predictive Analytics software to provide media members a deeper analysis based on historical and live data. Users will have side-by-side player, tournament and career comparisons during live matches and they will receive alerts on any outliers in benchmarked player data.

“The role of data in tennis continues to grow in importance across the entire tennis community, and particularly among tennis journalists who play an integral role in storytelling throughout the season,” WTA president Micky Lawler said in a statement. “The opportunity now to have access to SAP’s blueprint of real-time insights can take the art of tennis journalism to new heights. Our fabulous partnership with SAP continues to deliver innovations that improve the sport for our fans and all of our stakeholders around the world.”

SAP Tennis Analytics is available at the start of the 2018 WTA tour for credentialed media members on a number of devices, including mobile phones, tablets and computers.
