San Antonio-Based Grocer H-E-B Debuts Four New Comedic Ads Featuring Spurs Players
San Antonio-based grocer H-E-B has released "four new commercials" featuring Spurs players to coincide with the start of the '17 NBA season, according to Jackson Floyd of KENS-CBS. The first commercial features players, including F Rudy Gay, at a "fancy hummus tasting" event where they "debate how to correctly pluralize 'hummus.'" In the second spot, Spurs Gs Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili are "promoting H-E-B Veggie Spirals and creating some new noodle-themed nicknames for their teammates." In the third, Gay "tries H-E-B's 'Primo Picks' for the first time, which inspires his teammates to try out a new hobby." The last ad "reunites retired Spurs legends, who take a spin in the 'SRV' -- the Spurs Retirement Vehicle" (KENS5.com, 10/22). In San Antonio, Jeff McDonald notes Gay "didn't know what he was getting into when he signed up to join the cast for this year's round of the iconic H-E-B commercials." He said, "I didn't know what a big deal they were. ... I'm going to have to work on my acting chops for next time" (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 10/24).
