Atlanta United on Thursday will have a "chance to break an attendance record for the second time in five days" for their playoff game against the Crew, as the upper deck of Mercedes-Benz Stadium "will be open," according to Doug Roberson of the ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION. The game will kick off at 7:00pm ET and be "televised on ESPN2." The team "broke" its own MLS attendance record in Sunday’s 2-2 draw against Toronto FC "with 71,874 tickets sold." A team spokesperson said that they are "expecting a 'full house' on Thursday." An official total for capacity for soccer in the $1.5B stadium "hasn’t been announced" (ATLANTA JOURNAL-CONSTITUTION, 10/24). Roberson noted Atlanta United drew the "third-largest crowd among the world’s soccer games played last weekend." Atlanta United also "finished with the highest season average attendance (48,200) in U.S. soccer history, breaking the mark set" by the NASL's N.Y. Cosmos in '78, and it "sold the most tickets in a season in MLS history (819,404)" (AJC.com, 10/23). MLS Commissioner Don Garber said, "The launch of this team is one of the most, if not the most, impressive and successful team launches in the history of professional sports" (AP, 10/23).
