Rutgers Moves Football/Wrestling Doubleheader From Yankee Stadium

Rutgers has moved its Nov. 4 football/wrestling doubleheader against Maryland from Yankee Stadium "back to Piscataway and High Point Solutions Stadium" due to the Yankees' postseason run, according to Kristine Auble of the PRESS OF ATLANTIC CITY. Rutgers AD Pat Hobbs: "With two weeks until the date, it was important for us to finalize details that help ensure our fans and our student-athletes have a one-of-a-kind experience." Rutgers season ticket holders will "still have their same seat locations as they would for other games at High Point Solutions Stadium and Rutgers will contact them with more details." Single-game ticket holders will "get comparable seat locations" (PRESSOFATLANTICCITY.com, 10/20). In Newark, Ryan Dunleavy cited sources as saying that Rutgers also "gets a full refund of its $750,000 stadium rental fee and is not obligated to move a future game to the Bronx." Terms of the agreement stipulated that if Rutgers-Maryland "conflicted with the World Series or any other MLB postseason or regular-season game then the Yankees had the right to notify the teams that the stadium would be unavailable without penalty." Rutgers was "able to keep all ticket and school merchandise revenue generated, but it likely would've taken a crowd of about 40,000 for Rutgers to equal its earnings from a typical home game." Rutgers fans also "did not respond to the game," one of the reasons that season ticket sales were down 16%. The wrestling community "seemed much more willing to embrace the change of venue than football fans angry over the parking and tailgating situation, as well as the sight lines." Many ticketholders also "found that their seats at Yankee Stadium did not comparably match their tickets at High Point Solutions Stadium" (NJ.com, 10/20).
