WNBA Stars In Negotiations To Be Sold To Undisclosed Buyer, Relocated To Las Vegas

The WNBA Stars are "in negotiations to be sold and relocated" from San Antonio to Las Vegas, according to a source cited by Doug Feinberg of the AP. The Stars are "one of five pro teams owned and operated by Spurs Sports & Entertainment," including the Spurs. The Stars "released a statement on Twitter announcing the negotiations and offering their 'deepest gratitude' to team employees and fans." The franchise "moved to San Antonio from Utah" in '03. Las Vegas has "become a coveted target for professional sports teams over the past few years" (AP, 10/13). In Las Vegas, Bill Bradley reports the Maloof family, which "previously owned" the Rockets and NBA Kings, said that they were "not involved in the sale." A UNLV spokesperson said that the school has "not been approached about the Thomas & Mack Center becoming the home to a WNBA team." Bradley notes it is "unclear where the team would play." Possible venues "include T-Mobile Arena, the MGM Grand Garden, the Thomas & Mack Center and Orleans Arena" (LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL, 10/13).
