Univ. Of Michigan To Earn $2.25M From Amazon Documentary Series Airing In January

The Univ. of Michigan will make $2.25M for its "participation in Amazon's upcoming 'unscripted' documentary series" about UM's '17 football season, according to Nick Baumgardner of the DETROIT FREE PRESS. UM will get $1.5M from The Montag Group -- the producer of the series -- for "access/licensing and an additional $750,000 (from TMG) for site access." The series -- which is being co-produced by the Big Ten Network and Jim Jorden Productions -- is "set to air in January exclusively on Amazon Prime Video." The series is "scheduled for eight episodes, each an hour in length." Per the 26-page access agreement, UM is "required to provide Amazon with 'reasonable access' that does not exceed 'three to four' shooting days per week." But UM has the "right to 'review' and 'provide its comments' on 'the second rough cut' of each episode." UM also has the "right to 'review and comment' on all marketing materials that use Michigan's intellectual property." In addition, UM has the "right to approve 'any in-show sponsorship or advertising integrations' within the program" (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 10/5).
