Bruins Hire Blackhawks Announcer Judd Sirott To Fill Vacant Radio Play-By-Play Role

Blackhawks broadcaster Judd Sirott "has been chosen" as the Bruins radio play-by-play announcer for WBZ-FM, according to Chad Finn of the BOSTON GLOBE. Sirott will "join longtime analyst Bob Beers in the booth" to replace Dave Goucher, who left in August to "become the television play-by-play voice" of the Golden Knights. Sirott "served as host and fill-in play-by-play announcer" for the Blackhawks on WGN-AM for the past 10 years. He has also "called NHL games nationally for HDNet (now AXS TV) and the NHL Network." Finn notes more than 200 candidates "applied for the opening." Four "auditioned during preseason broadcasts." They were WBZ hosts Ryan Johnston and Adam Kaufman, Canucks broadcaster Jon Abbott and Sirott (BOSTON GLOBE, 10/5). Meanwhile in Chicago, Phil Rosenthal reports Chris Boden will replace Sirott as the Blackhawks' "pregame, postgame and intermission host" on WGN. Boden is a "Chicago media stalwart of more than 30 years whose contract was not renewed earlier this year" by NBC Sports Chicago. The RSN had hired Boden 10 years ago as a "features reporter and studio host" for Blackhawks telecasts, then "moved him to 'Bears Postgame Live' four years ago" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 10/5).
