Media Notes

GOLFWEEK's Martin Kaufmann noted the wind "kicked up on Day 1" of the Presidents Cup, and Golf Channel "generally did a good job of illustrating the wind conditions on each hole." The "one exception was on No. 10, a short par 3 where players struggled just to hit the green with 8-irons." There could have been "more graphics" showing "wind direction and speed there." He also suggested there be a "scroll that regularly updates the status of matches" and keep viewers from going to a "second screen to find that information" (GOLFWEEK.com, 9/28).

SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE: In L.A., Tom Hoffarth notes the city will have a "six-game NFL Sunday" on four different channels during Week 4, providing an "unprecedented excess." Fox Exec VP/Research & Strategy Mike Mulvihill said, "I’ll bet there has probably never been a Sunday in NFL history when the fans of one city had access to six games." Factor in the games Thursday and Monday nights, and the "eight total games involving 16 teams" means L.A. will "see half the entire NFL on display" (L.A. DAILY NEWS, 9/29).

ROLL CALL: In DC, Dan Steinberg noted Redskins QB Kirk Cousins showed a print out of media members' names and faces during a tour of his locker and said, "I’ve got your names and faces here on a printout. So I can hopefully remember all your names as you guys change from year to year." Steinberg: "By maintaining a friendly relationship with the media you might also give rise to a media corps willing occasionally to give you the benefit of the doubt, and this sentence just consumed itself and is now wrapping its head fully around its tail" (WASHINGTON POST, 9/28).
