Georgia's Athletic Association Sees Operating Revenues Up More Than $10M From '16

The Univ. of Georgia Athletic Association had $130.3M in operating revenues in FY '17, which is up from $121.4M in '16, according to Lee Shearer of the ATHENS BANNER-HERALD. The "biggest chunks" came from football tickets ($25.4M), distributions from SEC and NCAA TV contracts ($38.2M) and "'contributions' season ticket buyers, mainly in football, pay in addition to the ticket face value." Operating expenses were $119.1M, leaving the association with an “operating income” of $11.4M. The athletic association also had net non-operating revenues of $18.9M, including "millions donated for projects" such as the ongoing $63M West End Zone project at Sanford Stadium. UGA VP/Finance & Administration Ryan Nesbit said that the athletic association had about $48M in reserves, money "not designated for a particular use, as the fiscal year ended." UGA AD Greg McGarity said that the athletic board has approved $100M in renovations, new construction and other projects over the past seven years, not counting the West End Zone project "now underway" (ATHENS BANNER-HERALD, 9/17).
