Univ. Of Michigan Releases New Designs For School's Football Performance Center

A newly released schematic design for the Univ. of Michigan's new Football Performance Center inside Schembechler Hall "details an athlete rehabilitation center, at least four recovery pools and a nutrition center," according to Martin Slagter of MLIVE.com. The UM Board of Regents "approved the design for the project" and the issuing of bids for the $14.8M facility during a meeting Thursday. The project will "renovate roughly 24,000 square feet inside Schembechler Hall while constructing an additional 8,000 square feet for athletic medicine, rehabilitation, wellness and nutrition for the football program." The facility will include "new spaces for training recovery and nutrition." It will feature "new team meeting rooms, administrative space and staff locker areas." Funding will be provided from "planned athletic department resources and gifts." This is the "second sizable renovation to Schembechler Hall in the past five years, as construction was completed on an addition to the facility" and a new museum -- a $9M project -- in '14. In February, the regents approved a new $21M project that will "feature a weight room and performance center project" for Oosterbaan Field House (MLIVE.com, 9/14).
