The Mike Slive Foundation for Prostate Cancer Research already has "two presenting sponsors in Regions Bank and Medical Properties Trust." : TIGER WOODS had the "best seat" at the U.S. Open on Friday night when he sat in RAFAEL NADAL's box during his semifinal match against JUAN MARTIN DEL POTRO. GETTING AROUND: Former NHLer ANDREW FERENCE has "initiated the Carbon Neutral Challenge to offset teams’ travel by purchasing carbon credits." He "earned a certificate in corporate sustainability at Harvard Extension School" and has become "involved with November Project, the worldwide fitness movement." He is also investing through Fifth Season Ventures, which "invests in companies providing environmental solutions." Ference serves as Alberta Sport Connection Chair, which "funds sports in his home province." He "started working for Sportsnet in an on-air role he terms as storyteller." Ference is also an investor in Somerville-based Greentown Labs, a "clean technology incubator" (BOSTON GLOBE, 9/10).

: The state of New York has agreed to pay boxer MAGOMED ABDUSALAMOV and his family $22M in what is "believed to be the largest personal injury settlement the state has made" nearly four years after he "suffered brain damage from a bout" at MSG. After Abdusalamov's fight on Nov. 2, 2013, his family "filed suit alleging recklessness, gross negligence and medical malpractice by the New York State Athletic Commission, NYSAC staff and the doctors it retained to work that night." Abdusalamov "remains paralyzed on his right side and unable to walk" (, 9/8).
