People & Personalities: Warriors Reporter Rosalyn Gold-Onwude Signs Deal With Turner

THE ATHLETIC's Marcus Thompson reported NBC Sports Bay Area's Rosalyn Gold-Onwude has "signed a new deal with Turner Sports." Gold-Onwude, who has spent three years as the Warriors' sideline reporter, will move to Atlanta and be part of Turner's NBA coverage doing some "reporting and analytical work with NBA TV." Gold-Onwude said, "I will be doing the Thursday games. They'll use me in-studio as well. Probably around some NBA TV shows." She added she "would love to be able to cover the WNBA." Gold-Onwude: "Covering the Warriors is a big stage. You've got to get your act together quick. I can really say I've improved a lot" (THEATHLETIC.com, 9/1). In San Jose, Chuck Barney the move "had to happen sooner or later." Warriors fans "came to appreciate her not only for her impressive basketball IQ, but the passion, enthusiasm and swagger she brought to the job" (SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS, 9/2).

BACK AT IT AGAIN
: In Edmonton, Kurt Leavins noted Oilers analyst Drew Remenda will be "part of the broadcast team" for Sportsnet again this season despite being a "bit of a lightning rod" among fans. A hockey market like Edmonton "deserves a knowledgeable broadcast crew, on both radio and on television," which is why Remenda "should be such a good fit with Oilers fans." He is a "well-thought-of professional that any NHL franchise would consider hiring for their broadcasts" (EDMONTON JOURNAL, 9/4).

SOUR APPLES: In N.Y., Bob Raissman noted Annie Apple, the mother of NFL Giants CB Eli Apple, had her ESPN contract expire following last season and "was not renewed." While there are "no concrete plans at this time, there’s still a possibility she could do individual features ticketed for one of ESPN’s NFL platforms." Last season, Apple was "used sparingly by ESPN" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 9/3).

ATHLETIC TAPE: The Athletic has hired former ESPN writer Pierre LeBrun as the site begins "expanding its hockey coverage." LeBrun was "let go in the layoffs" at ESPN this spring (AWFULANNOUNCING.com, 9/5). Meanwhile, former S.F. Chronicle reporter Vic Tafur has joined the site to "cover the Raiders for the eighth straight year." He also will "continue to write boxing and mixed martial arts" (THEATHLETIC.com, 9/4).
