People & Personalities: Remy Not Expected Back This Season After Latest Setback

In Boston, Peter Abraham notes NESN's Jerry Remy is "not expected to return to the Red Sox broadcast booth this season as he continues to receive treatment for lung cancer." Remy yesterday revealed that he would "soon start a course of chemotherapy." He had lung surgery June 26. NESN has "used Dennis Eckersley in place of Remy this season," with former MLBers Jonny Gomes, Mike Timlin and Wade Boggs also filling in. Boggs was on last night for Red Sox-Rays, and Eckersley will "work the games" in N.Y. against the Yankees Friday and Saturday (BOSTON GLOBE, 8/10).

ON CALL: In N.Y., Phil Mushnick notes MSG Network is "expected to announce soon" that Ed Cohen will become the Knicks’ "radio play-by-play man, replacing Mike Crispino, who recently was let go after a long run with the network." Cohen has spent the last 12 years "calling everything from minor league baseball, to Liberty telecasts, to college basketball on TV and radio." He will work with analyst Brendan Brown (N.Y. POST, 8/10).

PROFESSOR PLUM: In Portland, Tim Brown notes NFL reporter John Clayton is joining the Seahawks radio broadcast team "as a sideline reporter." In addition to working the sidelines on game days, Clayton will "host a daily show" from 10:00am-noon PT on ESPN Radio 710 Seattle and another show from 9:00am-noon on Saturdays (Portland OREGONIAN, 8/10). Clayton "spent 22 years at ESPN in various capacities until being let go" early this year (247SPORTS.com, 8/8).

SCHOOL TIES: THE BIG LEAD's Ryan Glasspiegel noted J.A. Adande and ESPN "are mutually parting ways." Adande, who last year became Dir of Sports Journalism and an associate professor at Northwestern Univ.’s Medill school, will be "focusing on his academia roles." Adande first appeared on "Around the Horn" as an analyst in '02, and began "working full-time at ESPN.com" in '07 (THEBIGLEAD.com, 8/9).

NOTES: CSN Chicago's Chris Boden "acknowledged his exit" from the net on social media yesterday after the net did not renew his contract. The net hired Boden in '07 as a "features reporter for the channel’s nightly flagship sports-news telecast, 'SportsNet Central,' while also serving as studio programming host for Blackhawks hockey telecasts." He was "shifted from the Hawks programs to 'Bears Postgame Live' four years ago" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 8/10)....WKRN-ABC anchor Dawn Davenport is "leaving the station after 10 years" for the SEC Network, where she will "appear every week during college football season." Davenport also will become Nashville's "first full-time female sports radio personality" (Nashville TENNESSEAN, 8/10)....Former NFLer Demarcus Ware will "make his debut as a TV game analyst during the Cowboys’ preseason game Saturday" against the Rams (STATESMAN.com, 8/8).
