Longtime Chiefs Radio Announcer Len Dawson To Retire Following '17 Season

Longtime Chiefs radio voice Len Dawson is entering his "final year as a broadcaster for the team" after 33 seasons, according to Blair Kerkhoff of the K.C. STAR. Dawson, who played 13 seasons for the team and is a member of the Pro Football HOF as both a player and broadcaster, will "contribute pre-produced segments and live pregame analysis leading up to kickoff." Former NFLer Kendall Gammon "will be the analyst for all Chiefs games" this year after calling road games in '16. Dawson began his on-air career in '66 when he joined KMBC-ABC "as the station's first sports anchor" while he was still an active player. He served as the host of HBO's "Inside the NFL" from '78-'01, and spent "six years as a game analyst" for NBC. Dawson left his anchor position at KMBC in '09, but "has continued to report for the station during the football season, and will continue in that role" (K.C. STAR, 8/9). The 82-year-old Dawson "has dealt with a number of health problems in recent years" (AP, 8/8).
