VICIS, Oakley Launch Advanced Eye Shield For ZERO1 Football Helmet

VICIS, a Seattle-based technology company, is partnering with Oakley to beef up its innovative football helmets. Together they have created and launched the VICIS EDGE Shield, an optics system designed to complement the football player’s wide field of view.

The shield has been developed specifically for the VICIS ZERO1, a helmet that placed first among 33 helmets in a NFL/NFLPA lab performance testing evaluation. The helmet is designed with multiple layers that work cohesively to absorb hits similar to a car bumper.

Slowly but surely, ZERO1 has trickled into the NFL with players testing the equipment during training camp.

Doug Baldwin, a wide receiver for the Seattle Seahawks, is a personal investor in the company and has said he will be wearing ZERO1 during the upcoming season. Kansas City Chiefs players Chris Conley and Alex Smith have tested out the helmet at offseason workouts as well.

The VICIS EDGE itself will be the only football shield made with Oakley Prizm lens technology that enables athletes to see colors more clearly in various environments. “We saw an opportunity to partner with Oakley to help players elevate their performance via improved optics,” said VICIS CEO and co-founder, Dave Marver in a statement. “Our goal is that athletes wearing a ZERO1 will benefit from industry-leading field of view, enhanced optical clarity and better protection.”
