Kei Kamara Fined By MLS For Wearing TruSox

New England Revolution striker Kei Kamara turned Twitter into a courtroom last night, presenting his case for an unjust fine from MLS.

Kamara said MLS fined him $1,250 for wearing TruSox during a game. The sock brand boasts non-slip performance pads installed on the inside and outside of the foot grips.

Kamara said he wears TruSox socks and New Balance shoes because the combination keeps moisture out of his shoes as he plays, which previously irritated his toe.

In 2015, MLS confirmed to Sports Illustrated that an Adidas partnership agreement requires all players to wear Adidas-branded socks during gameplay.

Kamara also claims he’s received no support from the MLS Players Union to combat the violation and suggests that MLS has been inconsistent in its fining — turning a blind eye to the same violation from Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore.

“Is it a rule for everybody or is it just a rule for Kei?” he questions.

SportTechie reached out to MLS and has received no comment on Kamara’s claims.
