Jordan Brand To Release First Training Shoe Featuring Flyknit

FRISCO, Texas — The Jordan Brand made its commitment to football evident this weekend at the Ford Center at The Star. The Dallas Cowboys’ practice facility hosted hundreds of high school players for the Pylon 7-on-7 National Championships, presented by Jordan.

Before the games began, players participated in Saturday morning’s Breakfast Club, a training regimen inspired by Michael Jordan’s desire to overcome the “Bad Boys” Detroit Pistons teams during the early part of his career. Jordan Brand trainer and former University of Oregon quarterback Dennis Dixon led the workouts, with help and mentoring from Jordan football players Jamal Adams (S, New York Jets), Corey Coleman (WR, Cleveland Browns), and DeShone Kizer (QB, Cleveland Browns).

Prior to training, players and trainers were fitted head to toe in the iconic Jumpman logo. Among the gear given to athletes was the new Jordan Trainer 2 Flyknit, as well as the Jordan Touchable Pro and AJIX Low cleats. The Trainer 2 Flyknit, inspired by Jordan’s breakfast club workouts, is the brand’s first performance shoe to use Nike’s proprietary Flyknit technology.

The all-new Flyknit pattern is precisely engineered with strong fibers to enhance the stability and durability of the footwear during intense activity. Its lightweight, flexible structure also provides dynamic support and comfort. Combining these features with the classic Jordan style drew a rave review from Adams.

“This is probably my favorite (training shoe) so far,” said Adams, the former LSU All American and sixth overall pick in 2017 NFL Draft. “It’s definitely a comfortable shoe that you can train, lift, and run in.”

Kizer told SportTechie that new tech training technologies, such as those found in the Trainer 2 Flyknit, are things he is aware of when looking to improve performance.

“You have to take full advantage of the technology out there for you,” he said Being in the generation I’m in, the game has changed big time. There’s a lot more we know now through statistics and technologies that allow us to play at a higher level. If you’re not maximizing those, then you’re two steps behind.”

The Trainer 2 Flyknit releases globally on July 1 at select retail stores and Jordan.com. Additionally, Jordan will host brand events over the next few months that will prominently feature the new training shoe. Breakfast Clubs will continue to be available at select Jordan Brand spaces in New York City, Chicago and Toronto. Beginning in August, Breakfast Club will available to everyone.

As Jordan continues to deepen its investments in technology, training, and football; players like Kizer and Adams are honored to partner with the brand.

“When you’re a part of such an elite group, it’s easy to have dialogue with them as an athlete,” said Kizer. I think that’s the coolest thing about being a part of the Jordan brand, especially being one of the few football players. If something needs to change or if there is something I want to do, it can happen in an instant.”

“There’s so many great people involved with this brand,” Adams said. “You build relationships and become close with everyone on the team. We just want to be great. (Michael Jordan) was the greatest and once you’re around greatness, it rubs off on you.”
