Some Devils Fans Upset With Redesigned Uniforms, Despite Untouched Colors/Logo

There were "four changes to the Devils' uniform" in the recent Adidas redesign with the colors and logo remaining intact, but some fans were "quick to voice their displeasure with the new designs on social media," according to Chris Ryan of the Newark STAR-LEDGER. The Devils "provided the perfect response to the outrage on social media" through the team's official Twitter account. The new profile read, "The official Twitter feed of the #NJDevils. Not a fashion company" (Newark STAR-LEDGER, 6/22). In New Jersey, Andrew Gross wrote the Devils have one of the NHL’s "better uniform designs and color schemes." So it is a "sign of both the organization’s and the league’s good taste that the logo remains exactly the same, including its size on the front of the jersey, as do the color scheme and number and letter fonts and sizes." Still, some will "consider removing the three bands around the bottom of the jersey and altering the size of the arm bands bad moves, too much of a change." Gross: "On the whole, it’s a sleek design that still honors the past." The changes that were made to the uniforms were made as a "nod to the Devils’ former incarnations" as the K.C. Scouts ('74-76) and Colorado Rockies ('76-82) before moving to N.J., as well as the '28-29 Newark Bulldogs of the minor Canadian-American Hockey League (Bergen RECORD, 6/21).

WILD & CRAZY GUYS: THE HOCKEY NEWS' Ryan Kennedy wrote, "No franchise won this redesign more than the Wild." The Wild had "good uniforms to begin with, but the addition of the white stripe in the middle takes it to another level." Not only that, but the "new ‘M’ shoulder logo (cribbed from the team’s old script jersey) is awesome." The Sharks "win again" with their redesign. The shoulder logo features a "fierce alternate biting shark ... while the stripes on the arms are tight." Kennedy: "I’m pro-orange when it comes to the Oilers. It's bold and it’s fun. ... My problem is with the striping, which looks really out of place, particularly at the bottom of the sweater." That dark navy blue just "doesn’t work." Meanwhile, the Flames had a "chance for a do-over here and didn't take it." Kennedy: "Call me old-school, but black is not a Flames color" (THEHOCKEYNEWS.com, 6/21).
