NBA Franchise Notes: Jerry West Says He Plans On Being With Clippers For Two Years

In L.A., Broderick Turner notes Jerry West was introduced yesterday as the Clippers's new special consultant, and he said he is going to be with the team "for two years." He will serve as a "voice to provide wisdom and knowledge to an organization seeking success in the playoffs." West's advisor role will be "similar to the one he held" with the Warriors the last six seasons. Clippers President of Basketball Operations and coach Doc Rivers said that he "first thought about bringing West on board" after he was promoted to his current position in '14 (L.A. TIMES, 6/20).

ALL IN
: In Philadelphia, David Murphy writes 76ers President of Basketball Operations Bryan Colangelo's decision to trade up to the No. 1 pick in Thursday's NBA Draft will "end up playing a significant role in his legacy" as an NBA exec and "perhaps even defining it outright." The 76ers are expected to take G Markelle Fultz with the pick, and if Fultz "proves to be a top 30 player" and either C Joel Embiid or F Ben Simmons "lives up to his potential, few will care whom the Celtics ended up taking with the two picks the Sixers gave up." But if Fultz "turns out to be something less than the player Colangelo believes him to be," Colangelo will have "nowhere to hide" (PHILADELPHIA DAILY NEWS, 6/20).

BACK TO THE OFFICE
: In Detroit, Tony Paul noted the Pistons have "filed two more applications" with the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office -- a "'D' with a basketball running through it, and ... a connected 'D' and 'P.'" It is "unclear how or if these logos will be used." Pistons VP/PR Kevin Grigg: "They're secondary. We're not sure what we're going to do with them" (DETROITNEWS.com, 6/19).
