ABC Wraps Up Warriors-Cavs Series With Best NBA Finals Game 5 Overnight Since '98

ABC last night drew a 16.0 overnight rating for the Warriors' 129-120 win over the Cavaliers to secure their second title in three seasons. That figure is the best for an NBA Finals Game 5 since '98, when Bulls-Jazz drew a 20.6 overnight on a Friday night on NBC. The 16.0 is up 13% from a 14.2 overnight for Game 5 in both '16 and '15. Game 5 last year aired on a Monday, but the '15 game aired on a Sunday night. Last night's game peaked at an 18.8 rating late in the contest from 11:30-11:45pm ET and is expected to give ABC a primetime win for the 60th straight time that an NBA Finals game has aired on the net. The S.F.-San Jose-Oakland market led the way with a 39.6 local rating, followed by Cleveland-Akron with a 37.1. Rounding out the top five were Columbus (23.3), Sacramento (21.2) and Atlanta (21.0). Meanwhile, WatchESPN last night had an average minute streaming audience of 537,000 viewers, marking the best figure on record for an NBA Finals Game 5, and second-best all-time for any NBA game, behind only 598,000 viewers for Game 7 last year.
