Sources: MLB Has Its Sights Set On Mexico As A Possible Expansion Market

MLB has its "sights on Mexico as a possible venue for expansion," according to sources cited by Jon Heyman of FANRAG SPORTS. Billionaire Carlos Slim has "been involved in past attempts to buy into a baseball team, and a limited partnership would give him a chance to build needed relationships, before trying to buy a Mexican MLB team, though it appears he hasn’t been on the partnership log." He would "certainly be a candidate for ownership if MLB were ever to move to Mexico." Expansion to Mexico also "may be a better bet than Montreal" (FANRAGSPORTS.com, 6/1).

CAN'T STOP THE BEAT: In Boston, Nick Cafardo cited a source as saying that one of the "biggest pushbacks from players on pace-of-play issues ... is the suggestion that players should give up their walk-up music." Cafardo also suggested MLB "bring back the golf cart to take relievers from the bullpen to the mound." Put some "signage on the cart." There are "so many relief appearances now that the advertisers would get several views" (BOSTON GLOBE, 6/4).
