NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship Game Draws Best Attendance Since '12

Maryland's win over Ohio State in the NCAA D-I lacrosse championship game yesterday drew 28,971 fans to Gillette Stadium, the "highest since the last time the game" was held at the venue, according to Matt Kinnear of INSIDE LACROSSE. The '12 Loyola-Maryland title game drew 30,816 to Gillette. Saturday’s semifinal round "saw 30,530, for a combined 59,501, just shy" of last year's total at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field. This year's attendance "may come as a surprise to some expecting a dip without a Northeast team like Albany or Syracuse." The event "had a unique wrinkle" in '17 as the men's and women's championships were "held at the same site." The Maryland-Boston College women's title game on Sunday drew a record crowd of 11,668, breaking the old mark of 10,311 set in '04. There "were 19,471 fans at the women’s games between Friday and Sunday, also a record" (INSIDELACROSSE.com, 5/29).
