College Facility Notes: South Carolina Taps Daktronics For Scoreboard At Hoops Arena

In Charleston, David Caraviello reported South Carolina has hired Daktronics to "design, manufacture and install a new center-hung scoreboard and ribbon displays" at Colonial Life Arena, all of which are "expected to be in place by the end of the summer." The new scoreboard will "feature four curved sides, each measuring approximately 12 feet high by 20 feet wide, all capable of showing a combination of video, replay, statistics, graphics and animation." Two smaller displays, each measuring four feet high by 15.5 feet wide, will "attach to the bottom of the scoreboard and be angled toward courtside seats." The new scoreboard will "replace the arena’s current center-hung board, which includes one section for replays and video" (Charleston POST & COURIER, 5/10).

PERHAPS IN THE FUTURE
: In Fayetteville, Jaime Adame reports permit applications to sell alcohol at Arkansas' basketball and baseball facilities have been "filed with state authorities, but there are 'no current plans' to expand sales to those venues." Arkansas in '14 "began limited alcohol sales at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium" (ARKANSAS DEMOCRAT-GAZETTE, 5/11).

EYE OF THE TIGER
: In St. Louis, Dave Matter reports the Missouri athletic department has "received another seven-figure donation for the proposed south end zone facility at Memorial Stadium." MU announced yesterday an anonymous gift of $1.2M, the "seventh seven-figure donation earmarked for the football facility." MU said that it has secured $47.15M for the project. The latest gift is the 10th seven-digit donation in 11 months, the "most MU has ever received in one fiscal year" (ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH, 5/11).

WINTER IS COMING
: In Columbus, Tom Knox reported Ohio State is "moving ahead with planning for a Winter Sports Pavilion that would include a 4,000-seat main venue, 500 seats in a practice area, coach and meeting rooms and other amenities." The new venue would "replace the 1,000-seat OSU Ice Rink." The new rink would serve as "home for both the men's and women's hockey teams" (BIZJOURNALS.com, 5/9).
